Well, I DO see it becoming an MMORPG sometime in the future, but I don't think Nintendo would release it for the PC. Maybe, and just MAYBE(If their upcoming console allows it) they could release it for the new console. It would be kinda XBox Live.
Of course i do it would be great almost ever1 in da world knows bout pokemon if they make it free and update every month with a new pokemon (only one) it would be great dont knock it
I cannot see a pokemon mmorpg in play (at the past game's condition), because it's not advanced at all. If it becomes a mmorpg, a TON of things out of the blue will have to be created and the targeted age group for pokemon won't understand it what so ever. Monster Rancher is actually one game/cartoon that is possible to become a mmorpg and if you ever played/watched Monster Rancher, you know what the deal is. Monster Rancher is better than pokemon, straight up. BTW, if I'm not impressed by the next pokemon handheld game I'm quitting the game for good, just like i did the cartoon (after the second season, which was looonng ago).
I hate it when people start trying to turn every concept and brand into an MMORPG. Yeah it might work. It might work like the hundreds of other washed out and meaningless games out there trying to tap into the MONEY of MMORPGs..
Hello? Has all of you forgotten that Pokemon came out many years ago in North America? I was around 8 years old when Pokemon first came out, and I really enjoyed it. If people that were under 12 about 4-5 years ago enjoyed enjoyed Pokemon, then they would be at around age 14-17 right now. I am 14, and I play MMORPGs. I know for a fact that I would certainly really enjoy a Pokemon MMORPG, as much as I hatePokemon now, I really liked it as a kid (yes, I'm still a "kid" now, but you get what I mean). It would make an awesome MMORPG. Trying to catch all the Pokemons (what is it at now? 351? I have no idea, I stopped watching after it went beyond 151 pokemons, which was the very first series), trying to become the world's #1 Pokemon master (Major PVP), and just having alot of virtual pets. Of course, it has to have good graphics and be done right for me to play it. You people are really wrong about people under 13 not playing MMORPGs. I know I started paying for MMORPGs when I was 11-12 years old (yes yes, I used my parent's credit card). Ok, I'm done showing the childish side of me.
Its quite surprising it hasn't already been done because the format and game world would adapt to mmorpg play quite easily. The more I consider it the more it has going for it. 1. PVP is completely balanced as everyone can own the same pokemon. 2. PvP is consensual and griefing wouldn't be an issue. 3. PvE is there as you need to catch pokemon in the wild or undertake quests. 4. The tournaments are an ideal system pre made for in game events. The only downside is that as has been rightly put it is a kids game. but as all the consoles are going online you can bet the next Pokemon game on the new Nintendo console will have multiplayer. Whether this is just arranging matches or within a persistent game world remains to be seen. In a way it could be the thing to save Nintendo's new console.
Do you all realize... that we are sitting on a TON of money waiting to jump out of parents pockets with probably the most anoying buisness scheme ever? BTW... PSP has a wireless adapter with addhoc built in... PS2 has an adapter for the internet Xbox -- the same Nintendo would for a market This could be an explosion...
This has all been said before. A mmorpg version is being worked on though it's not official. Sadly at my age I was caught in the pokemon craze and see why you think it will be a good mmorpg. I would play but if people think WoW is full of immature people think this game .
it's got the perfect formula to be a. MMORPG so why not PVP battles winner claims whoevers monster good for the younger age group
I don't know if some of you are thinking hard enough, but like I said, if pokemon is ever to become a mmorpg, it has to be as complicated as the RPG's of today and Pokemon games has barely made a step since the stride with red/blue and gold/silver. At this momment in time, It can't be a mmorpg.
if you were ever a kid when Pokemon was around, then, you KNOW that at one point you LOVEDpokemon... oh, and the GameBoy Pokemon game is still an AWESOME time waster :)
Originally posted by Rikimaru_X Have you even played or even watched Pokemon before? It would make the perfect MMORPG if you think about it (you have know all the things aboutPokemon). Seriously, you consider something like Runescape complicated? Or even WoW complicated? It doesn't have to be complicated to make an awesome MMORPG. Simplicity can sometimes be the best.
Rikimaru_X... Xzaro is right in terms of ingame mechanics. The port for the game boy version wouldnt really be that hard... Just some additions to the game engine and a few threads and sockets... add in a set of client - relational objects and then change the map structures and boom... MMORPG... (obviously this would be the ductape solution...) An entirely modern MMORPG for all platforms is a very real possibility. Development time would infact take a short time... the hardest part... 3d artists to crank out all those #### critters.
A Pokémon MMORPG would be great, I would definitly play it.
For the ones that think that it will never happen becouse it is chiledish think of http://play.toontown.com/webHome.php?source=TT_1205 AKA toontown online, a disney MMO. Even with as kid centeric as this game is some of the Dev bost about haveing a large porton of older adults (i.e college age) playing it. so if the linnce ing thing got worked out it will exsits.
Sorry to say, but I do not believe that a large group of ''older adults'' as you call them (I would say teenagers as you're referring to college age) play that game. Maybe younger kids up to 12 or 13 years of age, but that's about it. Of course I can't prove this, but I just can't believe it. If you can prove me wrong by linking to a detailed site, please do so, I'd love to see that...
I Think Pokemon Would make a decent MMORPG, but not a truly great one. I can see it as a good game, but I think people would prefer killing people with swords, than knocking out peoplespokemon. I know Japanese Pokemon was made for teenagers, but most people I know won't touch anything Pokemon. P.S Please reply to the forum I posted.

Originally posted by LastSpartan If there have ever been MMORPGs made in Poland, how well did they do? I would hope that when more and more of the gaming community knows about the progress of that Pokemon MMO, some company in Japan comes along and buys it up to complete it themselves. Unless of course, the show's Polish producers didn't water it down like America's producers did. What was Pokemon like in Poland anyway? Did it retain the teen's appeal or did they water it down to suit children also?
So much animosity for something that hurts no one. What a ridiculous waste of energy. Every single person who enters into a lifestyle of gaming, regardless of how they get there or what game they choose to play, benefits all gamers in the market. As human beings, we have a ravenous appetite for newer experiences. When a Pokemon player gets tired of Pokemon that player naturally starts looking for something else. Countless other games provide newer gaming experiences and the road naturally leads eventually to the deeper gaming experience of MMOG. Every new Pokemon player is a potential future guildmate in your favorite MMOG, a person who may not have ever even looked at a MMOG to begin with. Each new person entering the fold is another notch of revenue that benefits the entire market. The larger the market, the greater the diversity that can unfold, again harkening back to the appetites of consumers for new and improved experiences. These are the hallmarks of consumerism and the market economy. The broader you expand your market penetration the larger the customer base and the greater the profits. Profits are what drive R&D, and R&D is what provides us new experiences. Without some venture capital being infused into even the tiniest of gaming development shops we would not have many of the games we have on the market today...and we'd still be playing variations of checkers, parchesi, solitaire, and poker. So your Pokemon player is the future, because Pokemon targets the young and whets their appetite for gaming, an appetite that is a lifelong hobby. Love them, they are your salvation.
Well said, Ianubisi. That was a fine speech. Originally posted by LastSpartan
I hate to break it to you now, LastSpartan, but that site is no longer around. I don't know where they took the "Ekaiyo" effort, but it's either abandoned, or relocated to a secret area. Now this year, the latest Nintendo (that is not a portable) is a Wii, and I'm not sure if it has a multiplaying system like XBox360 has (which is XBox live.) If Wii does have a multiplaying network, do any of its Pokémon games connect to a persistent server? Or just a team-on-team match-up? (I'd still like to traverse the world on a Wii like we used to on Game Boys.) So where are we on anything even remotely resembling a Pokémon MMORPG now?
If you take away our knowledge and prejudice of what pokemon reallly is its perfect for ammorpg. The entire concept is exactly what a mmorpg is all about.
Gameplay-wise I would much rather like a "Jade Cocoon Online", but I guess the whole setting does not make for a good MMO. Pokemon on the other hand with its tournaments and stuff may do.
